Shawn Anthony Gerulli, 48, of Biwabik, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 20, 2023, doing what he was most passionate about: Dirt Bike Racing.

Shawn was born in love to his parents: Sonny and Robin (Haavisto) Gerulli on July 13, 1975, in Virginia, MN. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Virginia, MN.

Shawn attended Bray Elementary in Biwabik, MN, and graduated from Mesabi East High School in Aurora, MN. After graduation, Shawn attended Lake Superior College in Duluth, MN, specializing in CNC Machinery. He was employed at Northstar Machining where he manufactured parts for Cirrus Airplane. Shawn then moved on to new employment at Genesis in Superior, WI, one of the largest CNC companies in the U.S. manufacturing Demolition Jaws for taking down buildings—some of these were sent to New York for dealing with the aftermath of 911. He was well-respected at Genesis and was promoted to Manufacturing Plant Manager.

Shawn served in the Minnesota National Guard as a Delta Cavalry Scout with the HCC 1/194 out of Duluth, MN.

Shawn was united in marriage to Annie Baudhuin on July 3, 2005, at his parents’ home in Lakeland, MN. Children born to them were a son: Ryder, and daughter: Kendra. Shawn loved his family unconditionally. He was the most generous, passionate, concerning, kind and caring man—a bright light when he walked into the room with his bright blue eyes, infectious laugh, and smile. He will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. They will attempt to live up to his motto: “Enjoy life and live it to the fullest.”

Shawn was a man of his own nature. He was an avid sportsman. He had a passion for life and adventure, dirt biking with his son, Ryder, and many friends, and mountain biking with his daughter, Kendra.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating and SCUBA diving. Shawn met and made so many friends during his many travels who loved and respected him.

Shawn is survived by his parents: Sonny and Robin; wife: Annie; son: Ryder; daughter: Kendra; parents-in-law: Mike and Val Baudhuin; brother-in-law: Chris Baudhuin; niece: Angela (Tyler Rytty); great-nephew: Brooks; nephew: Jeremy (Logan) Johnston; great-nephew: Calvin; maternal grandmother: Char Haavisto; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, extended family, and friends; and his best friend: his dog Ollie (alias: Poochman or Turd).

He was preceded in death by his sister: Shelly Lynn Gerulli; maternal grandfather: Clifford Haavisto; paternal grandparents: Victor and Florence Gerulli; and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the Loon Lake Community Center at 3816 Co. Highway 100, Aurora (Palo), MN 55705. Bill Bauman will be the celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded.
