A cleaning whizz has shared her 'miracle' hack that gets rid of fruit flies instantly - and you only need a product that costs 40p, but you most likely already have it in your cupboard

Fruit flies are a problem all year round - but especially in the summer. As there are generally more fruits and vegetables ripening, it's the perfect time for them to lay eggs on any rotting or fermenting food. Although they are small in size, they can be incredibly annoying - especially if you have them in your kitchen.

Luckily, a cleaning whizz has shared a genius method of making sure you don't get any fruit flies in your your home - and it only costs 40p. It's so easy, and according to Linda Lundström, who describes herself as "Your TikTok Mom" and shares hacks on social media, this is the best method she's found.

The Canadian fashion designer took to her account @lifehackslinda to share: "This is completely different to any of the other methods and it worked - I don't have any, touch wood, fruit flies in my kitchen this summer." She then revealed her secret - vinegar.

Showing her methods step-by-step, Linda poured three cups of vinegar (about 700ml) down her kitchen drain, let it sit for a minute, and then follow it with a full kettle of boiling water. At the end, she added: "This is the method that has worked the best. I don't have any of those nasty bowls sitting around with apple cider vinegar with fruit flies in them anymore. It's a miracle."

Luckily, vinegar is really cheap, and can be picked up from your local Sainsbury's for just 40p. Linda explained he had heard about the hack from one of her followers - and plenty had others to share in the comment section.

One person suggested: "I use that method plus I add a few heaping tsp of baking soda as well, once a month. I've practiced this for 50 years." Another gave the tip: "I stopped buying bananas and now I have no fruit flies!"

A third asked: "What about if they're from spoiled fruit on the counter. I got rid of the peach but now there are tons of fruit flies." To which Linda replied: "This method is before they show up. Once they are flying around, use traps with vinegar and dish soap."
